Marriage & Family Therapy Retreats
The FTVCA clinicians have extensive background in work with parents and families managing the often complicated task of understanding and responding to a child with special needs. Recognizing that the impact on marriages and families of having a child whose needs are atypical can be profound the FTVCA clinicians work to promote a clearer understanding of the child's needs, effective collaboration in meeting these needs and preservation of means by which to meet the needs of all family members.
This clinical team has extensive knowledge and experience in working with families with children with: Autistic Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, Attachment Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders, Tourette's Syndrome, Affective Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and Psychotic Disorders.
Depending on a range of factors, work with these families may or may not include the special needs child.
Areas of focus may include:
Co-parenting struggles - differences in style, understanding and perspective between parents
Understanding and responding to social cognition deficits
Sibling issues
Transition to adulthood
Placement concerns
Behavior management and crisis planning
Collaborative Problem Solving
Attachment & Trauma Focused Family Therapy
Few situations are as complex or wide ranging as the impact of a special needs child on a marriage or family. The opportunity to address these challenges with a knowledgeable clinical staff while also having fun together is relatively unique. Providing the opportunity for the work and fun of what it is to be a family is the goal of this program.

The clinical team of FTVCA are open to collaboration with community based therapists with whom families, couples and individuals are currently working. For those involved in therapy within their community, if requested, Dr. Stewart will contact and collaborate with their current therapist both before and after treatment.
