Will my health insurance cover this program?
Typically the answer is no. However, all providers are US licensed clinicians and a medical bill
with procedure codes for all services will be provided. The cost break down is approximately 70% clinical and 30% lodging etc. Medical savings accounts are routinely accessed to pay for this program.
Is the program effective?
The answer for this question depends on
many variables, however we can clearly
state that we have worked with many treatment resistant couples and families
and have found the opportunities available in this unique program highly
effective in resetting troubled relationships.
The opportunity to be far away from the stress of home, intensively
focused on shifting the pattern within relationships, while having fun together
on a wonderful vacation is a powerful mix.
Where is it and how do we get there?
San Juan del Sur (SJDS) is a small
fishing and tourist town in the extreme southern Pacific region of Nicaragua,
sitting between Lake Nicaragua and the ocean, approximately 15 miles north of
the Costa Rican Border. The easiest way
to get here is through Managua (MGA) and then taking a shuttle to San Juan del
Sur. We will help arrange all
transportation once in Nicaragua.
We do not speak Spanish, is that a problem?
No, SJDS has many tourists and is a
community in which one can do well with very limited (or no) Spanish.
Do couples and/or families interact with other couples and/or families who are in the program?
No, couples may run into one another in the common area of the property, but they have no formal involvement in groups. It is not uncommon for the program to have only one couple at a time.
Families never have other clients on the property; the entire house is
theirs for the visit (with the exception of the maid and gardener who
live in a separate area.)
Are there situations that are not appropriate for this program?
Families or couples with an ongoing issue of physical aggression are not appropriate for this program. All other situations can be discussed with the clinical director to determine their appropriateness for the program.
We work with couples struggling with a wide range of issues from poor communication/conflict resolution skills, infidelity, substance use related issues, to sexual incompatibility. With respect to families, we have extensive experience working with families with acting out adolescents, children with developmental disabilities and families working through lose or transition.
